[Inglemia] Five Element Majors - News

The relatively unknown trade journal, "Inglemian Magical Research" which has been on the wane for over 15 years since the discovery of the Self Replicating Rune and the Mirror Tube used to cater towards the research of the noble houses, with interest for every new rune that came out. Eventually people stopped caring, instead purchasing magazines detailed information about the trade network, or more importantly anything and everything that they could find out about the mysterious Earth. However, this has now changed, and the magazine reports a major ground swell of projects. Some blame the war, others the new doge, but scholars do agree that it is as if some kind of mystical dam had broken unlocking research potential for the first time in decades. Interesting things are expected to occur.

Belatedly, the Senate has stopped its investigation into House Segglestaff. The Law Firm Wolfram and Hart has been placed on indefinite suspension, its own assets seized and what members were recoverable have been arrested. Many have fled through the mirror tube and are being hunted by Ether, Water and the Gendremaine. At the moment, only minors of House Segglestaff are known to be publicly alive, thus their senate seat remains empty and their lands still in custody of the Doge. However, they are not currently being auctioned off. Private sources in Water indicate that the break through in the case came primarily when a magical spell preventing investigation was broken by unknown means.

Interest in the mysterious Pearl Door has increased dramatically since the Five Element Majors explored it. The complex has been declared Off Limits by military fiat, though that only makes the public more curious. In an attempt to alievate curiosity, the city of Blue Port has begun selling tickets and using the proceeds to fund the rebuilding effort.

The Dwarves of the Mountain Kingdoms have invaded the Charlands. In an attack of astonishing ferocity and speed, Dwarves have occupied at least one third of their territory and decimated the dragon and half dragon populations. Word is leaking out that recently the dwarves discovered that the half dragons were responsible for the theft of the rediscovered Crown of Kings. The Dwarves have also sent a missive, rather publicly with over a thousand dwarves marching to MountPort, going through the mirror tube to Inglemia, and marching directly to the Oriculcum Throne. At this point there were two legions and an airfleet monitoring them, but the heads of nine of the twelve major clans, very formally and very politely requested in writing, "We know you have it. Thank you for its recovery. Return it to us forthwith." No other details were provided. The Dwarves have shown Drill Machines laced with Xarthak armor which, among other things, proves highly resistant to dragon flame. Apparently Xarthak isn't only highly deadly against Inglemian defenses. The Charlands have invoked the mutual defense clause of treaty of the Axis of Xarthak. Thus far, the Perfect Dominion, the Shard and Iosal have not yet responded.

The Third Air Fleet has been recalled from the front line with the Mirrortube at Greyhawk and recieved a heroes welcome and Flicker Tape parade. By royal decree, the Doge has moved replacements for their unit to the had of the building queue in the Protport shipyards.

An emissary from Melnibone has arrived at Inglemia and is interested in establishing formal relations.

The Doge has granted royal titles to each of the Five Element Majors out of gratitude at the valiant but ultimately failed efforts to save his son, giving them formal estates in Sosori lands (albiet small). Knighthoods are rarely bestowed in this modern era, but noble titles still carry a certain status in certain social circles and are often very impressive to less advanced societies in trade network worlds where it isn't a wizard's spellpower but his lands that tend to matter more. Rumor has it that Dame Eshante was so annoyed at the bestowal of the title that she has gone into hiding in shame, especially at the refusal of the Doge to bestow the title once granted.

The Empress of Kelp has also formally granted titles of peerage (Baronies) in the vast and nigh unlimited lands of the Empire of Kelp, as well as the Order of the Silver Conch.

The death of the prince has caused a rivalry for the title of Heir among his three other sons, each forming a bond with the remaining power blocks - Yontor, Ohigattan and Lamplighter (taking the lead in Segglestaff's stead among that former power block.) This is somewhat ill timed or well timed in regards to the Constitutional Convention, since the nobility will not speak with one voice. It will improve the position of the cantons, who are quite deciding themselves on many issues (there are at least three major blocks in their own movement though on some things they are entirely united) but it does mean that there will be more complicated and potentially fractious negotiations. The position of Heir is officially constitutionally recognized since, barring major earth shattering magical discovery, the heir succeeds the Doge, which is why, despite being a Republic, the Doge receives the title of Royalty. Yontor's dynasty lasted 220 years before the discovery of the Mirror Tube, though the discovery of Self Replicating Runes would also have qualified. Historically each 'upturning' discovery has required more than the last, which, even in this burgeoning era of research would need to impressive indeed. The pleasure network of Sosori proved to be such almost, but the corresponding dangers to society are now viewed by key Societies (particularly the Red, Gold, Blue and Green societies) as a threat to Inglemia herself on par with unwatched religion, constructs or immortality. Sosori still enjoys a remarkably strong political position though, since once the Dogeship is passed, it takes a lot to remove it. This is doubly so given the clause in the constitutional contract that the Dogeship will not change until the 'war' is ended. Some in the senate say Iuz's crushing defeat qualify for this, whilst others believe until the threat of the conspiracy of Gods is entirely identified and dealt with, the War of Worship may continue indefinitely, an uncomfortable situation to say the least. Clerics in Temple Row object to this term strenuously and several Societies are moving to have the term kept from official government documents. That doesn't stop the press or the populace at large from using it as the popular term for this unusual time of troubles where the city is beset by threats on seemingly every side.

The Pleasure Network has begun to spread more in Inglemian society to the point where the Gendremain has given up trying to enforce the eidict of the Senate and asked for a magical solution to the problem. The universities are attempting to answer. The Hyper Enhancement is also real and spreading like wild fire. Inglemian productivity among the rich is in danger of plummeting.

The Spell Plague has been halted in Toril thanks to the quiet intervention of some Inglemian wizardry, but the gate is sealed and the damage to that world is still considerable.

Toril has been sealed off an quarantined by Ether due to a horrific spell plague that is ravaging the lands.

The Beholders have smashed the Confederacy fleet sent against them and are pressing their gains in the world above...so say a few wizards who bother to scry them. The subject of Spelljamming is becoming of interest to some in Inglemia.

Rumors of Shardi Self Replicating Runes are confirmed and efforts to stop them from creating it have failed. Their first templates have been demployed and it has a tremendously beneficial effect on their society, though at the moment they only have First Circle runes. Their ability to reverse engineer them is greatly increased though, since once the knowledge exists, leapfrogging on Inglemia's efforts is not as hard. The Iosalian Elves have also discovered Psionic Self Replicating runes of a sort and are enjoying prosperity...and enhanced military ability.

The halfling wizards have indeed found a cure to the Madlander plague. This is problematic in a lot of ways; first because the underclass of cheap Madlander labor bolstered the Inglemian economy, but also because there simply isn't ROOM for all three races in the Madlanders at the moment so plague, war and starvation are very likely in the future of halflings, goblins and gnomes. This is all while the Goblin cults of the Lost Gods are coordinating their efforts and have concentrated their efforts of digging in four massive sites with puts in which thousands of them are working together. This is one of the reasons why all out war has not yet broken out since Goblin numbers are distracted and Gnome and Halflings are more...sane...even in their 'cured' phase.

Anti Elf sentiment in the Senate has stalled formal relations and alliance with the Cloud Kingdom. The Doge is outraged stating that the city needs all the help it can get. Indeed, the statements by Ohigattan and a few minor houses was SO incendiary that the Lumberjack Elves have taken offense, causing the Protectorate to formally complain. Rumor has it that elven nations on the Trade Network are also offended as well. This has actually caused Sharn to call off negotiations for an alliance indefinitely. Given that the physical appearance of the Imperium is that of Elves, they have recalled their negotiators and their ambassador.

The Protectorate and the Empire of Kelp have both sent representatives to talk with the Canton Council as a result of the Ohigatan incident, with many in both believing that the Senate needs...moderation.

The slavery raiders are indeed real and while Ether is holding them at bay, the bounty on the woman is only going up. Ether is requesting reinforcements and has already begun to hire foreign legions made up of otherworldly troops. These 'lost' legions are equipped with Inglemian gear and many in the Senate strenuously object saying Ether has no legal claim to do this.

Familiar protections are real and quite popular. The new strength bolster is selling like hot cakes, as is the Severability link which reduces health damage should something happen to the familiar on the wizard.

The number of unseen servants going rogue is also affecting Inglemian productivity. Since these are unlicensed constructs, the Construct Destruction Unit of the Gendremain has been expanded and pushed to capacity in their work.

The Hex Consortium has cut the price of 1rst circle replicating runes in half, selling slightly under cost to undermine the other consortium. Shard Markets now entering the markets also are competing, driving the cost of very low level magic items to the point where anyone can afford them. This is enjoyed a great deal by the populace at large but is bleeding smaller merchants dry.

The giant's castle is being investigated by the Elves of the Cloud Kingdom but thus far all have been slain. Major military units are being deployed.

The Resurrection Machine on Graveyard has not been found, and many now believe it to be a hoax.

Rumors
