Ablaxa - a Temporal Mystery - Chapter 1

The sun rises, as it is wont to do. Inside the stark wooden cabin there is a fire place  made of stones fitted together with wet cement.  You know what a cabin is, and you know what cement is.  There is light coming through a single far window at the far side of the cabin, and there is a single book visible on the table next to the bed, partially covered in the light.  You lean forward to examine the book, and it says the Diary of....

What is the name on the Diary?

>Kyra Hope.

The Journal of Kyra Hope

"Entry 1. I am unsure if my experiment will succeed.  Despite my testing, I am unwilling to experiment on animals and the ability to cross the breach was too much not to try.  I have no idea if the physical laws of our universe will even apply.  I am bringing as little as possible since I am relatively certain the transfer will short out every thing but I am dying anyway, anything else at this point is just gravy."

A noise began to come from outside of the room.  What is it?

>A bear

The bear noise coming through the window was more curious than anything else.  There was a distinct snuffling about the place as it was rummaging through piles of.... something.  There was a distinct sound of chewing.  Obviously, it had found food.

Do you: Read more of the journal, investigate the bear or sleep?

>Look out the window for the bear

When you stare at the bear long enoigj, tje bear stares back.  It is a black bear, a yearling, likely only a year old   Hence the reason it is only a year old.  Duh.  You knew that.  The bear is staring at you, gobs of water melon dangling from its face.

It lifts a paw.  If you didn't know better, you would say it was waving at you.

Do you:

Wave back, go outside, run in fear, sleep, look more in the journal or write out a treatise on the economic dependency of bears and water melon in a rural mountain environment?

>wave back

The bear starts to talk.  It has a rich, deep voice which is pleasant to hear and sounds generally grateful.  But of course that is insane since even if bears could talk you dont speak bear.

Is that insane?

>Apparently this world has different rules? I go to the kitchen to look for something to feed the bear. Then I look at the diary again.

The kitchen is fully stocked.  You now understand bear.  The world os slightly more colorful.  You see at three new colors that you have never see before.

What are the colors called?

-Pending actions
--Feed Bear

>Plurb, zank, falula

Wonderful new colors - Inserted.

Plurb - Derived from Eplurabus Unim, the color denoting social bonds between people and the things they care about.  Kyra immediately saw a draw between the bear and the land, and a potentially burgeoning friendship (or meal) between herself and the bear.

Zank - The color of decay; everything in a universe of entropy is decaying, though the Diary is clearly correct because entropy here is not as stark as it was.  This is curious because Kyra realizes that the memories she does/doesn't have of the universe she left are now colored by these colors she did not ever/can now/always has seen.  It seems particularly useful for knowing when not to bite into rotten fruit since a bright red apple looks positively Zank to anyone who can see it.

Falula - The background color of the cosmic radiation of the universe.  All her old memories had it, and it is a distinctively different hue.  She is definitely not in Kansas in any more.  Nor does she recall having been to Kansas...or ever wanting to be there.  But she does remember what Kansas is.

-Feed Bear

(With food obtained from the Kitchen)

She goes outside and sees a lovely garden full of flowers and food.  There is a sparkling golden hue around about 6 acres before it goes into a wood that is deep, impossibly green and plurb with amazing hues of Falula in the trees.  The bear, sensing a meal (one way or another) is pending, raises up on its hind legs and you feed the bear honey.

The bear eats the honey.

The bear says, "Thank you.  That was delicious."

Do you: Say that you are welcome, continue with pending action, feed the bear more honey (politely), jam honey down the bear's throat with great justice?

-Pending Actions
--Read more of Diary

>Say that you are welcome and ask if he wants more.

"Why yes, I would love some."

He proceeds to eat all of the honey in the jar.  "Thank you, I was starving.  I see that we are neighbors.  Welcome to the Forest.  I am Beary B McBear.  Pleased to meet you.  To whom do I have the pleasure of addressing?"

Do you: Say that you are Kyra, Say that you don't know who you are, Say "I would like to compliment your meal by providing you with protein composed of my right arm", Read more of the Diary.

>Read more of the diary
The bear looks confused at the break in conversation but does not immediately eat you.

"Entry 2 - Time in the transition is slower than I thought.  I stepped inside of the porting chamber and felt every atom of my body discorporate and the classic 'light in a tunnel' though there was definitely no flash back.  If I am correct, then I will be able to physically enter the collective unconcious, rather than simply receive electro magnetic transmissions from it.  I have paired this journal, which is actually an ebook to a quantum entangled peer in regular space.  If I am right, I will be able to document my experience.  It is my hope that the auto return function will have be back safe and sound after only a day; but I know the risks and the odds that this is a one way trip.  Subjectively speaking, it feels like it has been months, perhaps even years.  I tried counting to 10000 and got to around 5000 before losing count.  There is no pain and I believe my autonomic functions have slowed or ceased, but quite frankly how can life even function at all at such a break down of the biochemical level?"

-Do you, read more of the Journal, Talk more to the bear, go back inside, or shout at the sky in a fit of fundamental ennui at your plight?

>I apologize to Beary B for the confusion, then say, "I think my name is Kyra Hope? But I'm not entirely sure right now."

"Well hello Kyra Hope.  I am terribly sorry you are having this identity crisis.  That must be terrible.  But I wish you the best in bearing it.  Thanks for the Honey.  Hey, we're having a party later tonight and you're invited.  It's like...the whole forest."

Do you: Say you have nothing to wear, kill and turn the bear into a Sarah Palin style dress, say 'Thank you' or make a really horrible pun in return?

>It's okay, I'm bearing with it. *wink*

>Should I show up bare? Or grin and bear it? If you've got the honey, Money, I've got the time.

>I think my brain is melting....

>*giggle*

"Puns are regarded as the most sophisticated form of humor in these parts.  You'll fit right in." The bear grins and bears it.  "You can't miss it.  Sundown, follow the lightning bugs."

The bear waves and goes to shit in the woods.

Do you: Follow the bear, go back inside, read more of the diary, wait until nightfall, wait until the end of time when the stars go black and all life is ended?

>Read more of the diary.

[Heromux-$] The Root of the Problem

The Paradox used to be somebody.  Before the Presence had booted him out, he had been this close to ensuring that everyone was safe all the time, from everything.  Sure, it had involved using Fate to take away everyone's free will, but then Good would always Triumph and Evil would suck.  It was pure and simple logic, and he was willing to do it.  Now, he didn't have a name.  The Presence had used his connections with  Mnemosyne and then wiped the secret access to the highest reaches of heaven that he had previously had.  But the Paradox had ...contingencies.

Right now, he was using dark and dangerous magics that was giving the Presence a series of unnatural urges.  Slowly, carefully, he worked his way into the back channels and back doors of the umbral passages of heaven until he arrived at the Throne room itself.

"You!" The Presence howled with all the anger a purely benevolent monotheistic 'just' deity could muster, "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO GET OUT OF MY UNIVERSE!"

"Well I did," the Paradox said, looking down at the Presence's bulging crotch.  "But I missed you so much."

The Presence sulked.  He looked at the Paradox and sighed.  "Maybe I was a bit hasty."

This would be the end of his rival.  The Paradox could not believe that he had come so close and failed, but this time he would not....Veolus and ....whatever his ally was called would be wiped from reality to be sure.

The Presence licked his lips and E...The Paradox smiled.

[Heromux-$] The changing of the wind

The goddess of Memory had forgotten something, and that was not supposed to be possible.  She sat, long dark locks woven among the curling of her fingers as she enjoyed the largesse the fates had brought her.  Though it had been long and costly, she looked down at her daughter, Cacaophony, who looked lovingly back.  Hades had stolen her, and thus revenge had been swift...swift in the eyes of one who could remember the beginning of time.

But something was bothering her supernatural senses, something outside of her jurisdiction.  A memory of something that had never happened.  Time had been rewritten and written so many times that many forgot; but she did not.  This was not a vulnerability for her.  But how could something outside of fate and that had never occurred in any timeline that she had ever experienced or sensed begin the great unworking of her revenge?

And yet it was there, niggling in her mind like sand in a sandal.  Bit by bit, she closed her eyes and let her mind wander and wander until it reached the lofty heavens.

Of course.  The idiot.  The idiot could never leave well enough alone.  She did not have access to such lofty heights, but Destiny owed her yet one more favor for sparing him, and he could stop him.  She had to, before it was too late....quickly, she stood up and left the room, desperately wondering what agency was moving things in such a diagonal fashion.
